NHS skills shortages are well known and there are no quick fixes.

Recruitment drives to resolve NHS staffing shortages have been common - to Kerala, India; the Philippines and Australia. A couple of years ago Paul Jackson of the Hull Clinical Commissioning Group and Rob Bell of The History Troupe and 2050NOW met with Ged Fitzpatrick, Head Teacher of St Mary's College, Hull to explore a longer term solution.

With CCG backing, the St Mary's Medical Academy was launched. The Academy breaks new ground and is a tribute to the vision of Paul Jackson; the can-do enthusiasm of St Mary's College and the strategic commitment of the CCG, Hull. The History Troupe has devised content for Health & Social Care within the NCOP Anchor Project is another illustration of widening participation content that has real impact and can generate sustainable results.

This has been high profile with Hugh Pym, Healthcare Editor of the BBC coming up for the launch of Memory Bank, Hull and the Vote. Career pathways into Health and Social Care for local students are opening up.

Memory Bank is a key part of The History Troupe’s community engagement activities. Talks on Local Roots, Heritage & Futures; The Vote, A Play About Dementia, And our full repertoire takes many people down memory lane.

Memory Bank: Hull is our collaboration with the Hull Clinical Commissioning Group and the Yorkshire Film Archive.

Hugh Pym, BBC Healthcare Editor, is our patron.

Memory Bank: Hull is The History Troupe’s collaboration with Yorkshire Film Archive and the Clinical Commissioning Group Hull. Healthcare professionals, carers, families and schools to provide a complete resource for reminiscence and life story work.

The History Troupe has integrated this content into workshops in schools and across the community, dementia café’s and a range of our performances. The packs are all about using archive footage of familiar faces, places, events and everyday lives to re-discover and connect with our collective shared memories.

For people of Hull that means films of the docks and the fishing industry, summer days spent in East Park getting drenched on the splash boat, reliving the drama of the 1980 Rugby Challenge Cup Final between Hull FC and Hull KR, and – of course – a visit to the famous Hull Fair.
