Patrick O'Connell was born in the shadows of Croke Park, the Mecca of Gaelic Games. A gifted footballer he left for Belfast Celtic and ended up at Hull City 1912-14. A controversial stint at Manchester Utd and then to Spain. Winning La Liga with Real Betis and then he was off to FC Barcelona when the Spanish Civil War opened up. He was feted across Spain for his footballing skills but ended in a paupers grave in London. Johan Cruyff has said that Don Patricio was the saviour of the Blau Grana. What a story.
